I am 6 months pregnant and I can tell you that it is NOT safe to do situps while pregnant once you are past the first trimester. In fact you are NOT supposed to do any exercises that require you to lie flat on your back after the first trimester as well. This is because by lying on your back you are restricting the blood flow to the fetus. Now is not the time to worry about your stomach...doing sit-ups will not stop it from getting big. You should stick to either walking, swimming or check out a prentatal yoga class--
I know how you feel though, before I was pregnant I was a competitive runner and I used to have a six pack...
My stomach may never get back to that point, but my baby will be worth it!!!

My doctor told me I could do any exercise that I did before being pregnant unless there was a danger of me getting hurt. Like water skiing or tubing, horse back riding, mountian climbing ETC... Sit ups are ok and you will know when you can't do them anymore. You need to just don't them normal don't push yourself and don't be extreme. There will come a point when you can do it.

how about doing leg lifts. they work your abdominal muscles like situps and work the bottom of your abs better.
Lie on the floor(with a mat if you need)
put your hands under your butt(for back support)
hold your legs together while lifting your feet off the floor 1 or 2 ft
lower down (as you get better, keep your feet slightly off the floor)
do about 10 to start with in a set.
with however many sets you can do and then work up. it will get you started. and your abs will be stronger for labor. and you aren't squishing the baby. I am always worried about that. I am on my 3rd pregnancy. good luck.

If you body is use to the exercise then yes you can do sit ups little at a time not extensive. But if your body isn't use to it then you need to check with your doctor for mild exercise during pregnancy.

Its not advisable to do sit-ups when you are pregnant. When you are doing sit-ups your tummy contracts,at this point of time, there is another life in you.It will hurt the baby.

It depends on how advanced you are in your pregnancy- first, second or third trimester. It would be advisable to consult your doctor to recommend safe exercises.
