I'm meeting a very old friend for lunch next weeks. I haven't seen her for 10 years. I'll be taking my son with me. I don't want to look my usual mumsy self, but still want to look like I haven't made a big effort? Any ideas? On a limited budget?

Why not wear some smartish trousers / skirt and a pretty top - I suppose it depends on what the weather's like. It's looking pretty grotty where I am at the moment, so I'd probably go for flared trousers, nice top and jacket and comfortable shoes - you're still going to have to run around after your son!

I'd suggest something neat but not looking brand new. Could even be jeans and your favourite jumper.
We all have something we know we look our best in, why not wear your hit clothes you feel comfiest in and you'll be there!!
I should pay more attention to my skin and hair rather than clothes, best look a bit messy but fresh. I'd maybe apply a relaxing mask on my face and hands the night before, but nothing too aggressive, and have a good sleep if possible

Dont ever think of wearing just a pair of pants and a tank top..its so cliche! Wear something that's chic and fashionable..think CARRIE BRADSHAW when she goes out to lunch with her girlfriends..I suggest you get yourself a dress that run up to the knee..Dont get a dress with floral prints though, that is so out of season. A plain black dress that has puff sleeves sounds great to me. Think babydoll in choosing a dress! For the shoes, you can wear any color since a black knee-lenght dress goes with any color..I suggest you pick brown though...A slip-on with chunky heels will do! As for the accessories, think tribal! its enough to wear a simple pair of chandelier earrings and a brown thick bangle to match your brown shoes! This outfit could be worn at daytime or at night, its just a matter or what pieces of accessories to accompany it. Since you will wear it at lunch, avoid wearing gold accessories..it will make you look like you will go to an evening event or something. This outfit is so fall 2006...so go grab it, i'm sure you will look awesome in it!

Try wearing a feminine skirt with flip flops and a shirt you normally wear.. or maybe a shortsleeved buttondown shirt.. it makes you look really feminine but the flip flops or sandals will not over do it.. try natural make-up.. or you could also make a big effort, and tell her, you were so excited, you decided to dress-up.. she'll take it as a compliment..

I agree with Verito.
Fitted shirt, knee length skirt, flipflops or sandals and a nice handbag. Women of all ages and mummyness look good in this outfit. And its casual but feminine. Its the 'oh this? I just threw it on' look, like you havent tried too hard but still pretty.

I think you should wear something casual....
some not so short skirt and a nice top would be perfect for the ocassion

If i were you I would go casual . Beach bermuda or capri and a spagetti top. do not reveal ur breas too much.
wear a sandal. if ur fat , then wear a one piece knee leagth dress and a sandal. u will look nice in any occasion. Put on a shade if you have one. njoy

Smart Crisp Denims, A silver / gold braided belt, Silver / golden footwear and a white blouse, not over the hill, very classy, in expensive , very attractive if you combine it right. And this is something i tell every one, smell nice, makes one LOOK very attarctive.

Wear something you are comfortable with yet, the best is smart top and a jeans would be great, if you don't mind to bare your back, then wear a halter neck top, it go well with jeans. enjoy the reunion.

Well fitting jeans with great belt (buy a young style) , a flattering top, fitted jacket or casual jacket and heels - you will look great.
