It was a strange thing.... I work nights and am normally sleeping at that time of morning.... But, I woke up for some reason and turned on the TV, after only sleeping two hours. At first I thought It was a accidental plane crash, then, as It unfolded.... I was glued to the TV in disbelief and horror. I will never, ever forget that day, or the night. Remember that eerie, quiet night with the entire country in a "no fly zone?". The quietest night I've ever experienced....the only planes I heard that night were fighter jets. Everyone had candles lit on their porch that night, Illuminating the Americans flags everywhere. It was the most sad, and at the same time, the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I don't remember America ever being as united as we were that day and the days that followed. I so love this country!
Sorry to rattle on! You got me going!! Peace!

I was living in San Francisco; I got woken up by my alarm clock radio saying planes had just crashed into the Pentagon and World Trade Center. At first I just groaned thinking the shock jocks had gone too far again. But when I changed stations and hit the snooze and got woken up 5 mins later w/ the same stuff, I bolted out of bed and ran naked into the living room, turned on the TV; saw the towers smoking and just started bawling. My sister works at the Pentagon and nobody could reach her all day. One of the worst days of my life and our country's history.

I worked for a major airline for 31 years...that day I was on a day off...I woke up and for some unknown reason turned on the TV...I thought it was a movie...and then reality gradually hit...they were broadcasting from LA so I thought that LA had been involved as well...I woke up my partner and said "I don't know what's happening --the world's gone mad"....he got up and we watched some more TV...then the second plane hit and we knew....all of my years in the airline industry I had never thought of an airplane as a weapon...I remember thinking that my job would never be the same again...and it never was.

I was in London and, as it happens, waching CNN. What I didn't know until later was that my daughter was in the WTC for a breakfast meeting.

As it happens, the people she called on were too busy to have breakfast, and they had a quick meeting she left 15 minutes before the plane hit.

She'd never been to the WTC before.
