I have read a number of books on the Enneagram within the last 5-10 years. The Enneagram isn't a bad assessment. I think it's better than the Color System and has some truth behind it. However, I think it doesn't cover everyone well; people try to fit the data into the enneagram shape, which is contrived.

I have found the Myers-Briggs Trait Inventory (especially Keirsey's version) to be more useful to me in how I assess people and figure out where they are coming from. It is not a "perfect theory" either, however, and 25% of people get bad readings from mit.

For me, the Enneagram type theory happens to fit very very well.

I'm a Type Five Thinker, with a strong Four wing (the notation would be 5w4). The description of Fives (and especially with the Four wing) fits me to a "T."

What I like about the Ennegram (or the thing that makes it unique) is that it shows the logical way the traits of a certain type become more "sick" or more "healthy." You can move along the arrows and see what a spiritually healthier version of that type would look like.

I do think you have made a good choice in using Riso's site. I think he really is one of the most insightful and "accurate" Ennegram thinkers out there.

If you have some trouble with the Enneagram test or get a reading that you don't think is right, it might be fun to (1) ask a friend what they think of the results and (2) have your friend take the test as if they were you.

Often we perceive ourselves in ways that others do not, and vice versa, so that could give you some great insight on who you are.
