My husband has a hearing disorder called meniere's disease... I have no idea what caused it, but he's having trouble mostly with understanding the sounds rather than hearing them... So I ask if anyone knows a name brand that makes reliable home phones as far as the sound accuracy... and prefferably reduces the background noise, and has a rather moderate frequency... What do you like best and why? It's not like you can try it before you buy it, or is it?

Does it make a difference if it's 2.4 or 5.8 mega Hertz?

Sony used to be the best...not sure if they are available or not anymore. Panasonic is good, do not buy Vtech or Uniden, they are awful.
Most stores will let you return...so try a couple! Good luck.

Ps. dont buy the cheapest, that's a no brainer. And honestly, non-cordless phones are the best for less background noise.

I personally would try to find some support sites or orgs that deal with meniere's disease. People on the site or associated with it should be able to tell you about products that make it easier for people who have certain illnesses/conditions.
Hope this helps. I would also try to talk to local stores and ask if the models on display can be tried in the store. Most electronic stores have displays and I would tell them why you need to try them and see if they will let your husband try them.
Hope this helps

Buy one from a store that accepts returns if you're not satisfied.
That way if it doesn't work for your needs you can take it back
& try another. Check customer ratings on store websites for different phones first, that way you can see how they worked for
others. That's what I do. Good Luck.
