Elsin is correct.....writing it down committs it to memory better. Highlighting is fine when you are studying for a test, especially if you've highlighted your notes.

It is easier and faster to use a highlighter. You will remember it better if you take notes. Highlighting helps you flip back to important parts, notes help you remember them. They say that if you repeat something 5 times, you will remember it--if you read it and highlight it as you go, that counts as one; if you read and take notes, that counts as two. I myself, when taking classes, usually use my pencil to note important parts in the text and use the same to take notes.

It depends on which method is more effective in making the information easier for you to understand and remember. Some people learn better visually. Others find it better when they write something down (I am this way). Some might find combinations of these, or other methods of those concepts.
It really boils down to personal preference in the end.

write down and/or highlight the main content which to be memorized. bcos your brain can't 'digest' all the words in the sentence. this way your brain can easily pick up the main point.

I always remember things better after I've written them down. Did you ever make out a grocery list, forget the list but remember the stuff you wrote?

I think it's better writing down. You will remember it mentally.
