I go to Vegas all the time. Based on Caltrans or CHP sources when would be the best time to leave for Vegas on a Friday night? And, when would be the best time to leave Vegas for Covina on Sunday to avoid traffic. I notice leaving Vegas on a Sunday between 3-6 P.M. really sucks. Also, leaving S. Cali Friday from 5-7 P.M. sucks too. I would like to see if CHP or Caltrans can give a time when traffic is heaviest on Friday to Vegas and Sunday coming home from Vegas.

I travel to el Monte quite a bit I found out the best time to leave for vegas is friday between 11 am and 1 pm almost no traffic and I can make the drive in about 4 hours. Leaving vegas you either got to leave early before 11am or late after 8 pm and never go on new years eve...lol

Well, if you really have to go on the weekend, you're going at the worst times! I drive from Pico Rivera, and the answerer who said leave early or much later was right. I almost never see traffic, but I leave before noon on Fridays. And coming back, you either have to leave Vegas before noon or fairly late at night. Everyone leaves after Sunday brunch, so it's best to get the jump on them. You really should take Friday off, or Monday, so that you can avoid the traffic. It's so nice to drive straight through without any trouble; that's what I usually get to do!

We either go up on a thursday night, fairly late, or leave on Friday morning and catch the sunrise in Barstow...to come home, we leave on Monday morning SUPER early to get to work on time, Or stay until late evening. Traffic is a bear from 2 onward on Fridays and around 11am Sundays...We go about 9 times a year (from San Diego) and have finally mastered the art of traffic...it takes us about 5 hours each way, going 95mph with radar detector...and 6.5 hours if they are patrolling :(

The 15 Fwy in between Calif. & Vegas truly sucks on the weekend. When I go to Vegas I leave on Saturday a.m. and return on Monday a.m. - Think about it, hotels are cheaper too on Sunday evening. But since I now live in Palm Springs, I have several options to go around the 15. check out a map!

last time went to Vegas...left there Sunday at 10pm, and there was no traffic. Made it home in about 3.5 hours (to Rancho Cucamonga)

the middle of the night works for me .........nothing but truckers and a few drunks ............easier to spot the losers from a distance as well ............
