Wasn't there a safety or cornerback in the NFL who was kicked out of and banned permanently from playing for brutality on the field -- clothesline and stuff like that? I think it was in the early 90s but I might be mistaken. I can't find anything out on the search engines.

the guy youre thinking of is chuck cecil-- a safety for the cardinals in the early 90's -- he was an animal--he would purposely try to spear every guy he tackled -- he was banned for too many hits to the head

Not sure of his name, but I sure remember a story on 60 minutes about a guy who was banned from NFL for being to rough, he played for the 49er's, Giants, Raiders, and I think the Jets, I think he was a steroid user.

I know that there was a safety that used to play for the Raiders, they called him the Assassin. (I think his name was Eric Brown, but do not quote me on that). In the late 80's, he laid a hit (clean hit, no dirty stuff) that broke a player's back.

I read an article on him in Sports Illustrated that basically said that he always strived to play clean football, even though he played for the Raiders (that is my input), but when he hit someone, he hit them 100% every time. The article said that he was a clean player, but he was the hardest hitter in the game (at the time).

The only thing I can think of is the one Donovan Darius did a couple years ago, and he got suspended and fined but not banned.

I think you're talking about Dick Lane, his nick name was Night Train. He clothes lined people all of the time, however I don't think he was banned but he was feared.
