Corona beer. 5 years ago, nobody was drinking it in England. Then I went back to London last year and all the poncey people were drinking it in the pubs. It put me right off. I had a pint instead.

Yes, Rock climbing, but it wasn't as simple as losing uniqueness. The activity became so popular that the places I would go became so crowded that it was actually a real head ache.
Plus with that many new comers to it there came trash too.
I mean garbage type trash, litter, climbers have always kept things the way they found them.
In fact those in the sport don't even like to see a bolt in the rock. But sometimes you come across them.
The thrill seekers also wind up getting themselves in trouble and it has started to give the sport a bad reputation as being dangerous.
This is not true, the knuckleheads who don't take the time to learn are the danger and not the sport.

i suppose this something you mean are hobby or activities, then why should you lost interest because the more people know/involve the better you can learn n share from them, find out how others look at thing from different angle/perspective, you can have discussion, analysis n evaluate to make it more interesting, better, to improve n come up with better ideal ! Even the so call something by you is somebody, so what ? take it as a challenge to win him/her over, to show what you are ca-able of n be proud of the result !

i've never "lost interest", i've just been more careful about what i say about it. for example. my favorite band in the entire world is AC/DC, has been since i discovered rock music. but due to its popularity among posers, simply because its ac/dc and they think thats cool, and its easy to get tshirts with their name on it, i don't advertise that i like them, because then people think i'm just a poser. its not so much that other people like them, its that i don't want people to think i like them just because everyone else claims to. therefore i don't readily volenteer the information.
and if its something that i enjoyed before the mass discovered it, i just figure hey, i'm that much smarter, i've been enjoying it for longer, like i said, i'll keep liking it, but maybe not advertise it so much for the reasons above.
good question

Yes, it happened to me before, like many times already. I just focus on my other interests and/or find a new one that would fancy me.
