Hello, can someone tell me why step children are so hard to get along with. I try my hardest and still end up being the worst in the world even though i have done nothing wrong. Can you try too hard?

I was a step child and I would say that the ball is mostly in the kids court to forgive the whole divorce thing or if someone died then they are still getting over that. If kids can't handle that their parents are not together then there is little that you can do to win them over. Just be the best step parent that you can be and never stop loving!!!!!

I believe you can try too hard, embrace being the stern step parent. Play good cop/bad cop with your step children. Allow your spouse to seem generous and forgiving, you be unyielding. I have been on both sides of this and I can see my male lions kill all the cubs when they take over a pride.

Its tough, I know. Step parents don't have the same bond with the child and the child regards you as unnecessary and a problem in that you are diverting the parents love away from them.
Maybe just relax, don't try, never get mad but be prepared to listen, understand your role and don't try to be a parent, just a friend.

if it really doesn't work, I'm sorry but its better for you not to be there. I lived with a step mum and 2 step sisters and a step brother who had ADHD and a brother with ADD, etc... and look, it ended disasterously. mostly because my step brother kept trying to kill me with a knife but also because my step mum pretended too much, she tried too hard to make us like her that we just ended up hating her even more. from my experience, step families just don't work, we're in our 3rd step family at present, but not actually living in the same house... that does work!! Good luck, and don't try too hard, there is a point where you must give in

they think you are there to replace one of there parents so the often will give you a hard time. don't let it get ya down eventually they will learn to accept you
