What could be wrong is that you've made a wrong connection somewhere along the line. Try unplugging everything, and restarting with just the bare essentials plugged in. i.e. memory, hard drive and video card. When you switch on, look at the back of the computer to see that the fan in the power supply unit (PSU) is functioning.

If this works, add a separate component and try again. When it fails, you'll know that the last component you added is conflicting with something else. For instance, if you have your hard drive and your CD/DVD-ROM drive on the same IDE cable, make sure that the hard drive is set as the master and the CD/DVD-ROM drive is set as slave. After each component is added, check the fan on the back of the computer again.

If you have a floppy drive installed, make sure that you correctly insert the power lead onto the four pins available. (I can't tell you how many computers I've received to look at that have had this as the cause of the problem.)

Make sure you've correctly identified the case front cables to the right pins on the motherboard. Some earlier boards wouldn't boot up Pentium computers unless an extra cable from the power supply unit (PSU) was connected to the motherboard.
