Tonight I saw a big vending machine selling critters for fish bait, like leeches, minnows, and something called "night crawlers".. what are they?

big fat earth worms :D

They are called night crawler because they come out at night. When I was younger my dad would spray the yard down.. get it all soaked so the worms would come out.. and we'd get hundreds of worms!

A night crawler is a worm that comes out off the ground at night breed and feed. they are larger than the typical earthworm or leafworms and are used for fish bait because of their size.

Very large worms, some over 10 inches long. Back east ,after a summer rain they lay on top of the grass at night and mate, going out with a flash light a person could get a few hundred on a good night.
