No Child Left Behind Act Invades Family Privacy
Buried deep within Bush's highly touted No Child Left Behind Act is a provision that requires public high schools to hand over private student information to military recruiters. This provision allows minor students to be recruited at home by telephone calls, mail and personal visits. If a school does not comply, it risks losing vital federal education funds. This provision, known as section 9528, was inserted with almost no debate into the No Child Left Behind Act by newly-elected Rep. David Vitter of Louisiana, who learned from the Pentagon that many public schools had strict privacy policies protecting student information from being released to any outside parties, thus preventing aggressive military recruiting. Under Section 9528, the only way to keep children's contact information from military recruiters, is for parents to submit an "opt-out" letter in writing to the school district's superintendent.

That's horrifying, I never knew about that! First they dumb down our schools, then they harass our children (not their's, of course) into joining the military to fight their money wars! Do you know if this is just for public schools, or are private schools held to the same standards? They are trying to turn the poor/mid. class into non-thinking, robot, killing machines. Such BS.

Come on folks, let's cut the crap. How much "freedom" do you want? Do you have any idea what kind of life you would lead if you had total freedom?

You would have no government since there would be no laws that interfere with your freedom.

Who would police your towns and cities, etc. etc

We have to give up some of our freedoms for the general good of both ourselves and all other people. The Left Behind program is a small thing to give up for the benefit it produces.

Protecting our country is important, sometimes it's more important than anything else we do. Personally I think we need a standing military of at least 1 % of our population. A permanent force 2 or 3 million Americans in the service will help us all around.

It will provide great employment, will help locally around the towns near many bases, will open factories to build equipment of all kinds, and will improve education for the service people who stay in service for a specific number of years.

Also, it will make every potential enemy shudder when he thinks of the vast trained force he may have to fight.

because of the fact the Republicans have screwed issues up so badly for the previous 8 years, maximum people who are not die-no longer undemanding Republican partisans are sick and uninterested contained in the way issues are. so as that they are prepared to % every physique who can provide to do issues in yet differently, whether the candidate isn't too sparkling as to what or how. subsequently Obama. you are able to thank Chimpy and Dick for that.

What is wrong with military recruiting? They don't put a gun to a child's head and tell him sign or else. Have you ever stopped to consider some kids actually want (GASP) to go into the military? If it wasn't for our military fighting for our freedom, you wouldn't be able to write your own views, no matter how misguided they are.

Be careful about attacking No Child Left Behind. One of your left wing heros, Teddy Boy Kennedy, (aka, whytedK.com) wrote that legislation. Bush just rubber stamped it.

But then again, he (Teddy) was instrumental in writing the immigration reform legislation of twenty years ago and look at all the help that has done for our country.
