You want to be working in a mysterious base in the American desert where strange experiments are made in tearing asunder the fabric of dimensions and most likely dooming you to either hideous death as the Zombie host of an alien headcrab or to your being shot by US Soldiers who have been told you are too dangerous to be allowed to live?

Seriously though, do like Gordon Freeman did and try to go to college at MIT for physics.

It may involve a lot more counting neutrinos and a lot less shooting then you think, though.
