When I open a message, I have to scroll from side to side halfway across the screen to read it.

Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and turn your mouse wheel.

Either of these 3 reasons:
1. The person who sent the email didn't format it properly (80 characters per line)
2. Yahoo! doesn't parse the email to the next line.
3. Make sure your browser is maximized and the screen resolution is big enough (800x600 is most common, but try to get to 1024x768 if you can).

[1] Maximize your window.
[2] Increase your screen resolution from 800 x 600 to 1024 or 1280 something.. whichever maximum shows in a Display Properties or whichever maximum supports your system.

Just press F11 From your keyboard in the page in Internet Explorer.
