Or was it MTV !!!!!
As stated by many below, music sells these days if you put a couple of girls in a bikini to shake there ***.
However true music should only be listened to in dark rooms with a comfy chair and alcohol. nothing else needed.
Who gives a toss if they are the Pussycat dolls or insert any other talentless shite that is doing the rounds. Image means everything. Howvere true bands play sweaty crampped gigs for years on end to get recognition for there work.
So in short - Visual media has killed everything. Come on all of you get off your fat arses and go and see a proper band live. weather it is rap rock indie r&b alternative or dance - dont spend your life being a couch potato there is a world out there go and see it.

Good question and maybe thats part of the reason that Top of the Pops is no more, unfortunatley there wont be many 'live' sightings apart from the odd ones and Jools Holland Show, the kids see these story videos, which dont often show the fun, depth and talent of the group themselves, only hot red cars, bikinis and bums!
and just to give you a laugh, my lad asked yesterday if he could play one of my 'big CD's'....... he was meaning a LP, so I had a fun day, playing all the oldies, Godley and Creme, they did some ace lyrics didnt they?!

The big difference today is that you don't listen to music, first you need too see it. It's so sad because you just put there a couple of "hot" girls and every man is going to buy the album. If you would listen to a Pussycat Dolls song without seeing them you wouldn't bother.
So yes, modern music industry doesn't sell music, they sell "hot" videos and pics on the cd sleeve. Nothing different from Playboy, at least Playboy tells you what it sells.

Image media in general has killed of verbal media to a point. I don't listern to the radio other than when the alarm goes off or in a car. I find a Tele more comforting and there is no static. DAB Radio might help save the radio.
