Because there are many people out there who want to control others.
They aren't happy unless they can dictate the standards that everyone else lives by, including dictating religion and morality.
That's the down-side to might-makes-right majority rule democracy -- people who have no respect for others get to impose their personal beliefs as a matter of law.

"The thing that hurts me the most, because I'm a former missionary, is that people in America seem to care more about this issue then they do of the 30,000 children around the world that die each day due to hunger and preventable disease. Now, you tell me which one Jesus would care more about."
Amen to that TrainerMan.
Isn't there enough hate in this world? Is society so hateful that it has to condemn people for wanting to do something out of love just because they are different than "normal" (whatever that is)? It's ridiculous. People need to start focusing on what's really important.

Wow..What people do in the privacy of their own bedroom is their business, all these homophobic gasbags preaching how wrong it is are also the first people who scream for equality and freedom of speech etc.. Yet they are against the rights of a select group because of their sexual orientation, talk about insecurity, (perhaps they're scared of their own true sexuality, repression does funny things to the head). Marriage should be about two PEOPLE loving each other, straight people don't have the monopoly on love, but quite a few (you know who you are) have the monopoly on hypocrisy. Chill!!!

Some have questions about their own sexual identity and homosexuality becoming normal would force them to face and come to terms with that. Others disgree with homosexuality due to their religion, but I find that it's selective, as I've yet to meet someone who goes to a church where women aren't allowed to speak (as Paul says so in his writings, where he also writes against homosexual relationships). The thing that hurts me the most, because I'm a former missionary, is that people in America seem to care more about this issue then they do of the 30,000 children around the world that die each day due to hunger and preventable disease. Now, you tell me which one Jesus would care more about.

Gay people are also human beings with feelings. If normal people like us can have preferences in choosing a partner of the opposite with certain expectations, gay people simply prefer to choose someone from the same sex. So these kind of people got to stop poking their noses in gay people's lives and start cleaning up their own mess they have in their lives first.

In my opinion, they should be forced to marry, because gay people are pretty annoying especially when they go to their gay bars and just switch partners and be gay with many people. As long as we force them to marry, there wont be gay bars. You dont see any Indian bars in India.
P.S. I am not homophobic because that would be implying that im afraid of them. Flamboyantly gay people are just extremely gay and annoying. There are cool gay people, what makes them cool is that they dont find the need to let everyone know that they are gay.

Most Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin. As far as I can understand, most Christians believe that marriage is a sacred union between man and woman. This country was founded on Christianity, and changing the negative views towards homosexual marriage will likely never happen.

That's a good question, because if gay people want to get married it wont affect me or anyone else on bit. If you don't agree with gay marriage don't marry someone of the same sex. Live and let live.

Because apparently they're utterly so insecure that they think if two gay people get married, their spouse is going to leave them for someone of the same sex. They'll say it's God, but they're actually afraid they'll want some gay lovin' if it's legal or that their spouse will. They keep arguing it's going to harm marriage, but that's the only way I could imagine it could harm marriage.

I really don't know what the fuss is all about. If a couple are gay and want to make a commitement to each other what is the harm. Nobody can force a church to marry a gay couple if they do not wish to.
