We did that once, when our son was about 18 months old. He had been asleep in the car, and we brought him home, and he woke up when we put him to bed. Unfortunately, his bed was right next to ours, but we thought he'd go back to sleep (he didn't). He cried a lot, I guess because he thought his father was hurting me. Needless to say, we didn't do that again. We make sure we lock the door now.
