This is the very difference between jail bait and good, healthy, happy people.
The jail bait person will say, "But he *made* me hit him!" He feels completely justified. No one in jail thinks they are guilty; they all are just "misunderstood."
The good person realizes that another person can never MAKE you do anything. It's up to you to choose how to respond. There is a split second before any thrown punch where the person makes that decision.
Now, the only way I would think hitting someone for this would be okay would be if there was a major societal reason for doing it - if it would lower your statues in society. Examples:
If your kid is called a wimp at school by a group of bullies, he's going to be marked a wimp, and people are going to beat him up for years. If he just hits one person right at the start, it won't happen. So that would make sense.
If it's an employee trying to undercut your authority as the boss, same deal. Fire him right away before others think they can get away with it.
Same thing with talking back to a drill sergeant. Guess who gets latrine duty?
You'll notice that in the last two examples, throwing a punch would be a VERY bad idea. There are other ways to fight back.
Now, if it's just you with some guy in a bar, there's no reason. Walk away.

No, you should not. why should you feel offensive in the first place. Are you feeling offensive because of the words or the person who said those words? The best thing to do is just ignore it. If you feel offended the person would have succeded in what he wanted to do in the first place, i.e. to hurt you.

No way!
The word they use can only hurt you if you let it. It can pass you by without a flick of an eyelid or YOU can let it sear your soul.
A punch that connects hurts no matter who sent it, and continues to hurt for some time. No options there.
Your best defence for a punch is to leg it, for an offensive name call, just walk on by.

I have an answer to Chris's answer. Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEVER EVER SAY VIOLENCE DOESN'T SOLVE ANYTHING!!!
What stopped the Nazis from genocide against the Jews. Was it negotiations? Was it concessions? Was it apologies? No, it was violence on a grand scale.
What stops murderers? Violence!
What stopped Saddam Hussein? Violence!
What stops jihadism? Violence!
That said, I don't advocate for violence in all problems. If you can get respectable behavior in any other way, use the other way. But when all else fails, violence.
The Bible teaches that to spare the rod is to spoil the child. Doesn't mean to love violence, but use violence in love, not anger even with your child.

It's never OK to beat someone up. Words are just that; words. Name calling is very childish, be more adult by walking away. It may be hard but you can do it if you try! I hope this helps.

Never. Better just to ignore it. If you fight every person who insults you in your life you will have a lot of fights. And probably lose quite a few. It's better to walk away with a damaged pride than with a broken nose.

The best thing will be to pretend that the person doesn't exist. This way he will get bored and never bother you again.Beating him up will not solve the problem, infact he will talk more about you behind your back.
