1) The capital of Australia is Canberra. The largest city is Sydney.

2) New Zealand isn't part of any continent. It sits on its own continental plate. New Zealand is much farther from Australia than North America is from Asia.

3) Australia most certainly IS a continent.

4) Oceania is NOT a continent. Oceania is an arbitrary REGION, nothing more. I can see that you are truly blonde. You might just as well claim that "The Midwest" is a continent.

Canberra is the capitol of Australia

And New Zealand is part of the continent Oceania. There is a country called Australia, which also is part of Oceania, but AUSTRALIA IS NOT A CONTINENT... Contrary to popular belief.

Specifically to Leviter and others with the belief that Australia is a continent, Australia is on the continent Oceania, other parts of Oceania include Tasmania, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, The Fiji Islands, as well as various other islands in the pacific theater. Just because a lot of people call Oceania Australia, doesn't make it so.

Canberra (sp?) in ACT
ACT = Australian Capital Territory

One website says that New Zealand is a part of the continent Australia/Oceania.

Note to other answerers: Sydney is the capital of New South Wales and Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, but these are not the capital of the country. Good guess though.

Canberra is the capital city of Australia.
New Zealand is notable for its geographic isolation, being separated from Australia to the northwest by the Tasman Sea, some 2000 kilometres (1250 miles) across. Its closest neighbours to the north are New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga.

Actually Canberra isn't the capital of Australia any more. We changed it to Laverton, and didn't tell any one.

New Zealand belongs to us, it is part of the Australian continent. Don't listen to the independance fanatics that say they are an island state, the army will be dispatched to deal with them as soon as they are finished in Iraq.
