A few years ago, taking the bus to work (crowded) I noticed this very pregnant lady standing nearby and bouncing around as the bus lurched. I offfered her my seat but the reaction I got from her simply floored me. She shouted out loud so everyone could hear "Don't get fresh with me, you creep!".
I'll leave you to judge how small I felt

I know exactly what you mean...
I was talking with my friend of 3 years about movies...he said that there was a spy series that he could not find on DVD anywhere,so being the clever girl that I am, I searched and I found it. I also bought it(I did not want to take the chance that I would not be able to find it)and I gave it to him at the bar that we go to on Fridays.
The look on his face was priceless...I knew that I did the coolest thing for him.
Then, he pushes it back at me,and says that he can't take it as a gift....he wants to pay for it.
Well, I was stunned. We wound up getting into a big fight about it.
A few days later,I asked him what it was all about. He just said that he is a man who makes his own way,and that he would have found it on his own.
Come to think about it...I still get a liitle mad when I think about it.
I was raised in a house where if you knew that someone needed something or had a wish for something, and you knew where to get it, you got it for them. I think that my friend is not used to that.
Don't worry about your friends...I think what you did was cool.
Vagrants are people too,and just because someone is down on their luck, it does not mean that we treat them like garbage.
So, do as you feel necessary to help people out..it will come back to you in the long run.

If you've seen the movie, "Pay It Forward", you'll know that just because you do the right thing and try to help someone doesn't mean that it will work out. At least you tried and I am sure that the "homeless" people appreciated the gesture. If your friends don't believe that you did it out of the goodness of your heart, then are they really your friends to begin with? Friends usually know what you are like as a person, if they haven't taken enough interest in you to know who you are, I would say that they aren't your friends.

I almost got arrested because of tipping the young ladies at a fast food joint. The manager told the police I was hitting on them for a date. I was totally innocent of this. Was told never to come back again.

Yes. On more than one occasion. I worked at a customer service desk. That pretty much says it all. You just never know what kind of mood someone is going to be in.

My sister worked hard to paint her mantel piece and I though i would help her by adding the finishing touch, the WET PAINT sign
the only problem was I stuck in on her mantel, right in the middle.
Boy, did she think that I was so stupid. I feeling were so hurt.

Yes. That shouldn't stop you, however. Giving a gift to those people was a good thing to do. Ask your friends what have THEY done for a complete stranger lately. That should shut them up! Good luck.

When our neighbors went on vacation, I put their newspaper on their porch when I walked by with my dog. When they got home, the lady was upset because they had asked another neighbor to do that job.
