I would try to listen and reassure her that she will make friends. Then I would do an assignment in class and ask each student to write one thing, about each student in the class, that they like about that student....no negative things. Then I would have each student hand in their paper. Then I would take a paper for each student and make a list of all the things that everyone said nice about them and hand them back to them. This can really boost their egos and it is all done anonymously.

I would automatically think the child had a problem with self-esteem. Surly someone likes them. And if NONE of the other students indeed do not like them, there is a definite problem with that child. I would ask the student why he/she thought this and then go from there.

Tell them how to get in touch with the school counselor.
If I had to tell them something I would say that is how all the students feel.
"Just do what you came here to do and learn to spell and write so you won't look like a fool on ANSWERS! (and people won't make fun of you.)"

My niece tells me this all the time. So I counter it with why do you think that? Then I just listen to her.
Unfortunately kids are mean, so if this student is "special" in any kind of way it will be difficult for them to make friends. I deal with this in my fiance's brother, he is autistic. He doesn't have many Friends and most of the kids at school are not nice to him. My niece is new to the school she is in, and is shy and just hasn't made many friends. So your student may have one of those issues. Again, kids are cruel, it is unfortunate but very true.

First I'd check that they weren't getting bullied. Then I'd try to get a little more information about their perception. Sometimes kids get ideas of others' impressions that are just way off. Or if it's correct - maybe there are some ideas to make life more livable at school.

Find out what's wrong with themselve.
Can it be self lack of knowledge in communicating with someone else and blame others for the blunders and slip-ups with human errors on planet earth.
So look into yourself and correct it.

i would tell the kid that no matter what to like him or her self. and that i liked them... kids like to have someone who is older who thinks highly of them. i would also talk to the kids as a whole about getting along with each other and the importance of being kind to one another.

I'd ask if they had any friends what so ever. Then see if they are being bullied.
