My "good, old" pal has recently turned into a jackass, but not on purpose. He is rude without knowing it and some people have tried to explain it to him, but he says that's just him, and they forget about it, taking insults from him. What would you do? I ignore the bastard now.

We've known each other since kindergarten, in the 70s, if that helps. We're old amigos.

I think you're doing the right thing. Ignore him...evade him, whatever. If he calls you up & asks why you aren't hanging out with him anymore, etc, just tell him the truth. Why should you subject yourself to being insulted?

I used to have a bestfriend when i was in high school and we call ourselves soul sisters coz we were so closed. Then I have to move to different state but we still keep in touch and sometimes she will come & visit me. Until we finished high school and go to college, she has changed a lot. Whenever i call her and said i want to meet up she always has excuses for me. She's been avoiding me and it's so obvious.I used to be so sad at one time but now not anymore. The best part is, i have move back to my old place for 6 years now and we didn't even meet each other, not even once in this 6 years. Is that what you call a friend? Forget it!

You might want to see why he is acting this way. Could he be on drugs or doing something different that makes him act this way? Talk to him and ask why such a drastic change in his behavior. Talk to him about the good times you two had with one another and explain to him how much he has changed and you want to know what is going on with his life. If he gets sarcastic and remains the way he is I say break off the friendship.

It sounds like your friend is going through something that has changed his outlook. Maybe try to uncover what is bothering him. Tough love makes for the best relationships. Be open and honest, and don't be afraid to set boundaries. The best of friends are the ones who are willing to stick with the person despite his faults and hard times. Don't give up on the friendship.

You should be able to talk to him if he's a real friend. Somtimes when people lash out at other people they are close to, they are just asking for help.

Other times they are just *******.

After I tried talking to him... if that didn't help, I would simply tell him that if our friendship was as important to him as it was to me he would not treat me that way or any one that I care about... otherwise as much as I cared about him I would have to discontinue the friendship because he obviously didn't respect me.

Has he always been like this? or are you more observant now for some reason, I think you should tell him his behaviour is unacceptable and if he doesn't chance he is history.

I would get him alone and tape one of his conversations and replay it for him........We did this for a girl at work and she was so ashamed of her behavior that she apologized repeatedly and has returned to her own self.......People go through phases, dear, and sometimes need to be reminded of whom they are portraying.........Take care...........
