DEFINITELY Stick to getting help -- because PTSD is serious -- and this is seen with those of us with Military Backgrounds -- and what we see when deployed and even when not deployed ...
SO yes, I do recommend that you find a therapist that you can trust -- and it may also include you going to a psychiatrist for medication therapy as well -- to be able to have the additional bio-chemical help to start dealing with the painful memory(ies) that are the root of the PTSD.
Through all this -- you will be starting to deal with the PTSD and its effects -- and it will be a lifelong struggle. There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel though -- if you can successfully confront the painful memory, in time, it will start to be less painful -- and then life can be less of a struggle.
Unfortunately, sometimes additional misfortune will bring the PTSD back to the surface sometimes (like becoming the victim of a crime or an accident). Then once again, you will need to find the trusted help to once again work on the memories and their effects.

I can certainly identify with you and your problem(s). The same happened to me, I only tell you this because I want you to know you are not alone. Maybe I can help you by telling what I learned and came to resolve.
Tia Chi is a martial art unlike any other, not only will you learn to take control of your muscular coordination but to relax. It is a coping mechanism mind over body. Please investigate it.
Now for the hard part: If you have been tin therapy I 'm sure they have told you it wasn't your fault. You are a good person that has had something bad happen.
The human body was marvelously engineered. If we were in a jungle or forest for example with no medical provisions and were injured, a cut or open wound, our bodies immediately starts to heal itself as best it can, bleeding, clotting, antibodies pour in the bloodstream, all this goes on without even thinking about it. As it heals we are even aware to shield it to protect it till it is better.
As time goes by it "heals" but the scar is there.
Our psyche is the same and in therapy we must open the wound and repair it and it very painful to do so. That is why we stop going and then come back. In my countless number of doctors I have seen only one agreed with me when I said I have come a long way, there is still more to do but I need a break it is too painful do deal with all at once.
My advice?: learn to live with it, knowing you are going to continue to get better. When you are ready go back to therapy.
I cannot promise we will ever be cured, My doc says I'll most likely be on Prozac (maintenance dosage) the rest of my life.
I congratulate and celebrate you on surviving this far and still want to improve.
You seem to have the spirit and the will to survive.
Keep it up and Keep in touch if you wish

Unfortunately, the only way to get through your problem, is to actually deal with it. A lot of people try to "deal" by pushing their memory/feelings about their incident down and not thinking about it, unfortunately PTSD is the type of disorder that is going to constantly remind you of the incident by way of flashbacks or nightmares. It is the nature of the beast to re-live these events until they are resolved.
Being "comfortable with your pain" is another way of saying that you are stuck. You can't move forward It only works for a while. Your physically ill symptoms come from your anxiety surrounding the event, and the fact that you don't want to deal with it. But you cannot live your life pretending that it didn't happen. There will always be something to remind you - something to trigger a memory.
Your best bet is to find a counselor that you feel comfortable with, and one that isn't too pushy. One that will allow you to approach this at your pace, but will encourage you to move forward and guide you through the pain and trauma.
It could be that you aren't ready yet, as I don't know how long it has been for you. But at some point in your life, you need to start to heal and not just cover it all up.
Please take care.

I suggest "The Feeling Good Handbook"
by David D. Burns.
http://www.amazon.com/Feeling-Good-Handbook-David-Burns/dp/0452281326/sr=1-1/qid=1157087784/ref=sr_1_1/104-9276397-9243135?ie=UTF8&s=books
Also, if you live anywhere near South Carolina, go there; it's the one state where MDMA was re-legalized for PTSD therapists. With MDMA, you can think about really horrible issues calmly and objectively without your brain trying to block them out and "protect" you as it usually does, so you can face them down and get over it. I cannot recommend this highly enough. (Absolutely don't take MDMA if you're currently on anti-depressants, though; you could get serotonin syndrome and die.)

The poet Rilke reported that each and each unhappiness that passes by using us, differences us for the extra helpful. Allocate an afternoon to purely experience the soreness, anger, guilt, or regardless of that's which you link to the unhappiness. experience it till at last you experience which you will no longer harm extra. Then supply it up. no longer because of the fact it would not exist on your existence, yet because of the fact that's replaced you strategies it had to. you're arranged to journey new emotions now. that's lots much less stressful to stay in case you stop living on the previous and ignore with regard to the destiny. because of the fact the 1st one won't be able to get replaced and the 2nd by no ability exists. in basic terms take right now on its face fee. Thank God which you have been given a definite soreness that makes you uniquely equipped to help others while they bypass by using comparable thoughts. And thank God which you at the instant are not one in all those, who supply suggestion even while they have had very mediocre lives and don't understand an element approximately soreness or actual hassle. you realize you could help others because of the fact which you have sailed the bothered seas. that's unusual yet genuine. Your existence differences once you alter your perspective. you will see your self responding in a diverse thank you to soreness as quickly as you're attentive to that's a latest. with regard to the medicine/alcohol/medicine, they're legalized/unlawful undemanding strategies to flee soreness and its outcomes. a drugs is given to a affected person to help his physique advance itself and combat and eliminate the an infection/ailment thoroughly. in the journey that your medicine purely makes you sleepy or quickly alliviates the themes, so as which you will possibly desire to be based on it for existence, that's not extra helpful than an habit (as in drugs or alcohol). it would besides be labelled that. Ask any physician who fairly knows his chops and he assist you to appreciate that medicine is given to help the physique's restoration technique and not make it addicted to some substance. don't get into habit (legalized/unlawful).
