If TV says they're good than every kid 13-18 will think they are. Bands that have already made their mark on the industry can now put out all the crap that wasn't good enough when they were at their peak. And they're trying to do what the young popular bands are doing. If you ask; What the best band in the world is or the best song? I guarentee you will get a pile of kids saying bands that have only been around for the last 6 months. Or a band that has been around for years like Green Day or U2 but they'll use Bulivard of Broken dreams or Elevation as their best songs. You know if you played them Sunday Bloody Sunday/One or Long View/When I come Around they won't kow who is singing.
But there are alot of great artist in the last 10 years like Shine Down, Disturbed, God Smack, Stone Sour and many others. Maybe find a new station to listen to. Try 97.7 Hitz fm. I think it's www.htzfm.com. They're in a town outside of Toronto they play everything from 1960 - 2006 and only good stuff. No Blink 182 or Good Charlotte crap.

I disagree with some of your finer points but I definitely agree over all. Mainly because I love punk (which started in the mid 70's so it's not just a new trend, the popularity is just new, and the popular stuff sucks), and I'm not a big U2 fan. But none of the music I listen to was made in the last 9 years. AC/DC and The Who and Led Zeppelin had it right. My theory is that everyone has done everything worth doing and all we have left is the crappy leftover music. Plus music seems to be taken over by talentless kids.

My point is, I have different tastes but I still think music went WAY downhill, which shows it was an all around fall, not just a few genres.

I'm not even out of high school yet, and I agree with you... All the good stuff came from before I was even born. Rock popped up in the 50s and 60s, right? So then you had classic rock. Seventies brought kicka** old school punk (and some crappy disco s*** that died more completely than any other genre ever has, and for good reasons). And then there was still good punk in the 80s, and metal got kinda big, and that was ok. Then grunge, and THAT was good.

Now its the 2000s and all we've got is artists who copy off of the old stuff, not making any real attempts at originality, and still failing miserably to reproduce any of what made the music good in the first place, because without the originality you've got nothing, and we've got groups who are trying desperately to come up with new subgenres, and what have they come up with? F***ing emo crap. Personally I think there's hope in groups like Sublime and 311, who I don't like THAT much, but who are smart enough to MIX genres (r&b and rock, mostly) instead of getting stuck in the same old stuff (although granted the Clash had done some similar genre mixes already).

As to the older artists getting worse... I think it has to do with trying to appeal to a younger audience, a lot of whom seem to enjoy kinda crappy music...

I've thought with each passing decade that music seems less original or entertaining. First there was the dawn of Rock n Roll when all was innovative, enumerous new sounds emerging thru the 60's, 70's and 80's. By the 90's and on, it was a 'tough act to follow' Originality and remakes seemed to be the key. Somehow rap stepped up and largely filled in some gaps. There are some super good artists from the present, far and few between, ie. Nora Jones, Jack Johnson who've popularized their genre. But I must agree.. most modern music doesn't move me much and I'm always happy to hear a favorite oldie from a master.

enable me start up off via asserting that 'sturdy' and 'undesirable' is and constantly would be thoroughly subjective. Now, the element is, no remember what your style in music is, you're guaranteed to locate a minimum of a few cutting-element artists that greater wholesome your style. With the internet being a enjoyed ones merchandise and all, maximum bands are particularly obtainable, music is amazingly different and there is no reason, different than organic laziness to hate on the well known state of music. i think of each and every person only expects to be spoonfed 'sturdy music' via the media and while they at the instant are not getting what they desire, they start up despising cutting-element music. overall, i actually believe that music customarily is greater clever than ever in the previous. and that i'm fairly specific in 2 many years, human beings will whinge concerning to the state of music then and worship the 00s. this is a in no way ending cycle.
