I will be staying near Holborn and I will not go around too far. Should I still purchase a 2 or 3 day tube pass? How much does a single ticket cost normally?

well, I would say yes but you may find that taxis are more enjoyable. most tickets cost £3.00 which is about $5.50 it may be useful to buy a day tube pass if you won't be travelling far.

I would definitely reccommend buying a day's travel card for both days - but make sure you get it only for Zones 1-2, or max 1-3. This isn't more than about £4 per travelcard, and it gives you flexibility to use any mode of transport at any time of day. Although it doesn't seem like, you will need to get around by public quite a bit. It's really not that cost effective to buy single tickets in Central London

I'd either get the one-day tube pass, like other people have mentioned, or just walk! Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Tralfalgar Square... they are within easy walking distance.

One night I was eating dinner right near where I was seeing a play, and after eating I realized I had plenty of time to kill before the show started. So I walked around - and never realized how close Trafalgar Square was to Leicester Square until that night (and this was like, my next to last week in London!)

My suggestion: just walk around (with a map, of course, so you don't get lost!) because it's cheaper and you'll get good exercise ! (I definitely lost a lot of weight when I was over there just by all the walking did for those three months!)

You can get a one day travelcard or a weekend travelcard. Check which zones you need - if you are staying central I expect you'll only need Zones 1-2 which will be cheaper. This will work on the buses and tubes.

It is worth buying day travelcard. I think if you use it more than like three times it is better value than single tickets.
