but my bfriend & i just discovered 4 days ago that we have mice in our apt. & im FREAKING out. we live in a very nice apt, in an excellent neighborhood. attached garage, fireplace, vaulted ceilings, etc. so we thought it was really nice & it was only 10 mos ago we moved in- i SWEAR we are both clean freaks, so, how the hell is this happening?!!!! I called my landlord & she said they've seen them here (in this complex) b4 & acted like its not a big deal & she said the mgmt doesnt exterminate & told us to set traps & put out poison & stuff, but it hasn't worked in 2 days & we dont know what to do!!! my bfriend found where they're coming from & they're coming out of the wall & it leads downstairs to our neighbors & we're going to talk to them, but if they are coming from around the pipes downstairs then doesnt that mean that even if we get rid of them, they will come back?! if anyone has any knowledge of how to deal w/ this pls contact me bcuz we dont know if we should just move?

First calm down, take a deep breath. Mice are not a result of how clean or not clean you are, they are a result of it is getting colder outside and they want to be warm and fed.
Around your building is there a lot of overgrowth? Look at your pipes under your sinks, are there holes around them? If so get some steel wool and stuff them around the pipe coming up from the floor. Find any hole that they can be coming in from and stuff the steel wool.
Get some traps, you can get friendly ones that don't kill the critter, and you can release him in your enemy's yard!!! Clean all areas with bleach water and please use rubber gloves and protect your mouth with a mask when cleaning, you don't know if they are deer mice or not. Then if you have a garage and or a crawl space and or those types of areas and you don't have animals go to your local feed store or home depot and get the blocks for mouse killer. They work great. If all else fails, call pest control and have them take issues. Could cost you money, but you will sleep better.
I've been dealing with them all my years on the ranch, seems like they like the warmth...imagine that!
If you take the necessary precautions you should be fine, check it all out and you will win the battle. By the way I've not had one in my house for the last (knock on wood) 5 years, because these are things you have to do every so often.
Your not the only one, they are a bother and I hate the looks of them, but you will get it taken care of and you will be fine.

Relax, it's a simple fix. get some traps, available at the hardware store, home depot, etc. Follow the directions on the package, which are to use peanut butter for bait and set the traps along the walls as those critters like to stay close to it. Also place them behind furniture. Start with maybe 4 or 6. In addition get some sticky traps too for added security. Lastly, get some vinyl gloves for disposing of your catch when needed. I would stay away from poison, if they die in a wall, it reeks for weeks.Good luck....

There is a poison called Talon, which the mice eat, and it makes them thirsty so they going looking for water instead of dying in your walls etc, and once they realise it is there all the time they stop coming around. Other wise get a pest inspection, and report, so that if it is found they were there before you moved in, then the landlords have to do something.

Also, get the wholes sealed up, to make it harder for the mice to get in

Your landlord is supposed to call an exterminator to get rid of them. It is his obligation not yours. If you use traps, bait them with peanut butter. You are not getting mice because you or your neighbors aren't clean. The mice can get in through tiny openings and they are looking for a warm place to spend the winter. Again, demand that your landlord call an exterminator and fix the opening that the mice are using to get in.

Ok, first i know its freaky, but you have to remember, if you live in the fanciest penthouse, or the slum of the earth, creatures are everywwhere. I know its gross, and all that, but a few traps are available at your local hardware store to kill the ones you have. As for the landlord, she could get in HUGE trouble from the health department if she does nothing about the problem. that would be a call you would have to make, but i would tell the landlord that before you do it. a kind threat goes along way. until then i would suggest putting all of your items that you would store in your food cabinet into heavy duty plastic containers. there is nothing more disgusting thatn finding mouse poo in your box of cherios. the point of this all is, do what you can to prevent them, but the landlord is ultimately responsible for their diposal, so to speak. thats what you pay her all that rent money for. good luck~

You need to get some steel wool from the hardware store. Shove them into all the holes you think they're coming in from, around all the pipes. Mice like to bite thru things, but they cant bite thru steel wool, and remember they can get into some pretty small opening. Hopefully that'll get rid of them.

Good luck!

its not such a big thing, you need to give it more time. if you can patch up the spot they're coming from, the traps will do their work. its just gonna take some time. humans lived in the wild with animals for centuries before we became such a cleanliness obsessed ppl. dont worry about it.

and you can get a cat if you want, that would speed things up a little too.

They are probably coming from outside. DON'T freak out either. I cannot believe mgmt doesn't exterminate. If you see where they are coming from is it possible to close those gaps where they come in around the pipes?
