For me best cricketer is one who has the following qualities:
1. Good at his expert field
2. A good fielder
3. Honest/a good human being
4. Excels in crisis
In all these qualities I find Steve Waugh is the best cricketer.
1. He used to play at number 5 to 7 and still he has the follwoing record:
In test matches 168 matches, 10927 runs, average 51.06, centuries 32, fifties- 50
Scoring 32 centuries towards the end of the innings (no 6 or 7) is remarkable. He has 50 fifties to his credit, that means he is consistent too.
2. He has been a good agile fielder taking in all 112 catches in test and 111 catches in ODI
3. He has been an honest cricket, leaving the crease on its own, when out. He is also associated with an orphanage in Kolkatta, India
4. He has always performed well in crisis. Besides that he has scored most of those scores at crucial juncture thus carries more weight.
Simply he is the best cricketer.

When you say best cricketer, it covers all he aspects of the game such as Batting, Bowling, Fielding etc. Leading Cricketers according to statistcs available now are Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar. The comparison between both of them are given below:
TEST MATCHES
----------------------
LARA. SACHIN
------------ ---------
Matches 128 132
Innings 222 211
Not out 6 22
Runs 11505 10469
Highest 400 N/O 248 N/O
Average 52.05 55.39
Centuries 32 35
Half Centuries 47 41
Catches 161 82
ONE DAY MATCHES
---------------------------
LARA SACHIN
Matches 270 363
Innings 262 354
Not out 27 34
Runs 9661 14148
Highest 169 186 *
Average 41.11 44.21
S.Rate 79.38 85.97
Centuries 19 39
Fifties 59 72
Catches 111 107
Mr. Sachin Tendulkar has also taken 37 wickts in Test Matches with the best bowling figure of 3 for 14 and 142 wickets in one day matches with the best figure of 5/32. Though Lara has also bowled occasionally, he has not taken any wickets in test match and has taken only 4 wickets in one day Match.
After evaluating the above statistics, I hve no doubt that Sachin Tendulkr is the best cricketer in the world so far.

if "so far" means "ever", then most people will tell you it is impossible to compare criketers over generations and even over 'skills' (e.g batting, bowling) within a current generation.
Even picking a world eleven from the current crop will depnd on the pitch being played on.
I won't even consider the differences between Test Matches and ODI's as if we are talking about real cricket, we can only mean the Test Matches.
Having said that.....here is my opinion, which I'm sure many will disagree:
Best Batsman - Don Bradman
Best Pace/Seam Bowler - Dennis Lillee
Best Pace/Swing Bowler - Wasim Akram
Best Wrist Spinner - Shane Warne
Best Fielder - Jonty Rhodes
Best Allrounder - Gary Sobers
Best Wicketkeeper (Gloveman) - Alan Knott
Best Wicketkeeper (All round) - Adam Gilchrist

I think you have asked a childish question. The game of cricket has seen many a great players come and go but I am sure many people and specially those who has the knowledge of cricket game and its history will agree with me that one name will always enjoy the reputation of the greatest cricketer of all time and that is Sir Don Bradman his average 99.96 and 29 hundreds in 52 tests 2 tripple centuries and 12 double centuries will always remain a dream for any cricketer playing at the highest level. But I am very confident his record will be unbroken for,may be, centuries.

Coming from the sub-continent I run the risk of being bias! I have narrowed the choice down to two fine cricketers: Rahul Dravid and Abdul Razzak. As I am from India I am going to say Razzak and had I been from Pakistan I would have said Dravid.

well at this very moment i would say, andrew flintoff. as an indian i always support india, but u have to appreciate good players and for me flintoff, who can bat and bowl is the best cricketer at this moment. also flintoff has helped india, when some english players came to india to raise money, i think it was cricket relief or something. u could see flintoff hold these indian babies and also the little kids some who had diseases as well. as an indian we have to praise our team and players but if u look at flintoff who is an amazing bowler and exciting batsman, and if u look at what he has done off the field, he is the best cricketer in the world.
