If I was pale with a giant nose, people would suggest I have a nose job and get a tan-no one would suggest for me to get a tattoo or a giant bull ring in my honker. I would be sooo ugly.

I think if you look like a circus freak, work at the circus. Are people with giant holes and full sleeves trying to work at a bank as a teller?

I dont know either. Im trying to play devil's advocate, but its not working...Im with you. I agree, people destroy their skin, lungs, whatever, by altering it with surgery and it seems 'ok'. But if people put on giant earrings to stretch their ears, or cover their bodies with artwork, they are 'freaks'.

I dont have any of the above-I do drink and smoke :)~ I think other's who have those things are interesting though.

One is done in a way that gaines more favorable status according to the norms of society and what society considers beautiful. The other is an outward rebellion and a way of saying "Screw Society and all it stands for." Employers don't generally want that type of attitude representing their company and they don't want to project that image. Cosmetic surgery is not mutilation. Putting a safety pin in your cheek is.
