3.Two parallel lines are cut by a transversal.

a)Find the measures of the angles if a pair of interior angles on the same side of the transversal are represented by (5x-32) degrees and (x + 8) degrees.
b)Find the measures of the angles if a pair of interior angles on the same side of the transversal have measures such that one angle is 4 times the measure of the other.

It would be nice if I could draw a diagram.

The interior angles on the same side of the transversal always add up to 180 degrees.

so a) and b) turn into:

a) (5x-32) + (x+8) = 180

b) x + 4x = 180

which reduce to

a) 6x = 204 ; x = 34; angles are 138 and 42

b) 5 x = 180 ; x = 36, angles are 36 and 144

a) the sum of the 2 internal angles must be 180 degrees. So:

(5x-32)+(x+8)=180
6x-24=180
6x=204
x=34
So the angles are 138 and 42 degrees.

b) The angles have to add up to 180 and if one is 4 times bigger than the other, you can work it out by dividing 180 by 5 and that will be the smaller angle. So the smaller one is 36, the large one is 144 degrees.

draw out the lines and (5x-32) is a degree for a angel of the interiour
this is a very easy problem, but very long to do it
