I think I know what you mean... I just CANNOT get into those "old movies" from when it was a fledgling business...
Casablanca is wasted on me.... THE BIGGEST YAWN HAS to be Citizen Kane.... I had to watch it for my film class this last winter... bored me to tears!!! I hated every excruciating moment of it!
I must say tho, when I found out George Peppard was in Breakfast at Tiffany's.... HAD to see it! (Yes, I was an A-Team watcher LOL!) I was very pleasantly surprised! & It is one of my fave movies!
I just cannot understand how people won Oscars or any other award for those movies.... I think it's also people's taste, and compared to now...... man! the whole Star Wars thing should be redone!! (meaning the ending or to some the first 3 lol!) the prequels are more technologically advanced compared to how it started out! I hope you get what I mean.
I know Lucas took a gamble then, not knowing what a BIG hit he had...
