I bought this computer without disks. I was able to copy 7 Cd's for recovery with this computer and the computer prompted me by saying that I could only do this "One" time. Can I use these disks without having Windows XP (service pack 1)??? I installed service pack 2 and am having alot of problems so I would like to start over.

The Windows disk is INCLUDED in the Recovery Disks

HOWEVER!, *IF* you do a system recovery it will restore your computer to the new "Out of the box" state! Every update, file, program you've added or installed, etc wil be lost!!!!

I just did this to 2 comps running XP.. The disks will reset your machine to the orginal factory setting. Don't need the XP disk. In fact the HP teck chew me out for changeing the factory OS.. The unit will allow only one copy to be made no more so safe guard the disks. You can by one at the HP store just follow the links.. Cost is 12.00

You can always use system restore from a safe boot. Back up files you care about.

Shut your system down, reboot holding down F8, and when you get the dos screen click on system restore.

I sugest you visit the Windows Knowledge Base, problems with Service Pack two were not uncommon, (Particularly on older versions of XP were famously problematic.)

Good luck, and get familiar with CONTROL PANEL. Dont just run there when stuff is messed up. Learn where the (fix messed up) controls are.

The Help option is a teaching tool, use it.
