Lay in bed and close your eyes. Then start at your feet and tighten and relax the muscles in each body part, toes, feet, lower legs, upper legs, butt, abdomen, fingers, hands, arms, neck, jaw. By the time you get to the top you should be relaxed enough to fall asleep. Turn off your computer. Sometimes taking an aspirin or Tylenol will relieve any ache that may be keeping you awake. Don't stare at the alarm clock. Sleep will come.

Don't drink anything with caffeine in it like tea unless its herbal tea like chamomile. Benadryl (25 mg) is a good idea unless it wires you instead of makes you sleepy.

Take a real hot bath or shower hun
Benedryl will sork too its an allergy reducer with a sleepy side effect.People use them for allergys and you can by them over the counter.Check your medicine cabinet, you may already have some.whatever you do.. dont drink caffeine ie; soda, coffee, tea
Also if you dont have bendryl.Cough syrup will work just as good.Just remember to follow the intructions on the label.
Dont psych yourself out sweetie.I know what its like to sit there and stare at the clock thinking.. if i go to be now I will get 4 hours sleep and so on.
The hot shower will relax your body and send melatonin to your brain. Its the active chemical in our brain that tells us to go to bed.
As opposed to serotonin which tells our body to get up and keeps our mood elavated during the day.
decaffinated chamomile tea is also a great remedy.

I hope I have been some help to you sweetie.Good luck on your first day of school!

the problem with answering this question now...is that you probably do not have anything there with you. Melatonin is a natural herbal substance that will help you get to sleep. For a night or two you can try Unisom or Tylenol PM but the problem is, they are habit forming if used over a long period of time. If you have an ongoing insomnia problem, there are great presription meds that are non habit forming you can get from your MD>
