a) (5x-32)+(x+8)= 180
6x-24 = 180
6x = 204
x = 36
therefore
5x-32 = 148 degrees
x+8 = 42 degrees

b) x+4x = 180
5x = 180
x = 36 degrees
4x = 144 degrees

So, you want to get the Xs on one side. 5x -32. You are going to divide 5x by 5 to get X by itself. Then, you are going to divide 32 by 5. That's the start!
