I'm not entirely sure how to explain this with text, but I'll try.

Basically, what are you good at? What do you enjoy doing?

For example: I like to write, so I write a lot. Since I write a lot, I get better and it becomes one of my strengths. My weaknesses in that area however would be that I'm not a careful enough proof-reader for my own work.

To be gifted at something you need an interest in it. All of the greatest composers had an interest and a pssion for what they created, authors have a passion for writing. It depends on what you enjoy doing and what you dislike.

I never thought I'd have an interest in debatiing until this year. But that's because I said "To heck with it" and decided to try something new. That's one of many ways to find out whether or not you like something.

Explore many areas: such as hiking, backpacking, cooking, dancing, piano, other musical instruments, acting, writing, planning parties, baking pastries, organizing special events. If you are a take-charge person: office manager. Are you always the "leader?"

Find your passion: It's something that you "must have," in your life and can't live without. Make a list of what you love to do and what you hate to do.

I don't know if you are in high school or college, but most colleges and many high schools have a test that you can take called the "Strong Interest Inventory". Based on how you answer many different questions, the test will recommend a major or a career that is most suitable for your interests and personality. Check with your guidance counselor if you are in high school or with your college's career placement office if you are a college student.

The best way to find out is to attempt. I noticed that I liked to watch racket sports so I tried my luck at tennis, badminton and racquetball. Turns out, I was a natural at racquetball and loved it. Right down the things that you like to do no matter how bizarre (try to keep it rated G) and go out and try things. If you enjoy something but are horrible at it, don't give up. Take lessons and practice. I'm sure Babe Ruth didn't hit a homerun his first at bat. Right?

Try taking some preferences tests. Try doing some of the activities you wonder about. You may not quite know what you will like, but at least you can not spend time on what you don't like.

try them, you'll know if you don't like it.

I didn't know I made good scones until I made some, and I thought I was shocking at painting until I painted.

I'm still shocking at painting, but I try anyway because I enjoy it.
