Einstein answered this question. It has to do with the way sunlight is scattered by the molecules in the atmosphere. Blue light scatters more than red (Tyndall effect also known as Rayleigh scattering), so more blue light reaches our eye.

There is an excellent description at the website listed below (look at the cartoon and it will be pretty clear).

It is not a reflection from the ocean. And it isn't just water molecules that cause the effect.

Aloha

The blue colour ot the sky is due to the refraction of sunlight back to the atmospher. There is no such thing as sky. This is the effect of reflected sunlight

The blue in white sunlight is more likely to be scattered by the particles in the air than the other colours. It's due to blue having the smallest wavelength, and thus being more likely to interact with the particles.

Rayleigh scattering (named after Lord Rayleigh) is the scattering of light, or other electromagnetic radiation, by particles much smaller than the wavelength of the light. It occurs when light travels in transparent solids and liquids, but is most prominently seen in gases. Rayleigh scattering of sunlight by the atmosphere is the main reason light from the sky is blue.

The sky is not actually blue. It is reflected by water. which Earth is the only planet with water. So that is why.

have u heard about RAMAN EFFECT.its bcoz this effect the sea is blue ,and i do believe the same principle works with the sky too.i dont remember to state that effect.anyway its about the refraction of light throgh the air particles makes the sky blue.as it is the light wave with uniformity we can see it blue.thats all

It isn't blue. You see blue because that's the color that is reflected through the water droplets from the sun.

Sometimes I amaze myself by remembering these bits of useless trivia.

due to presence of water vapours in sky the sunlight splits and there is something happens, i think diffraction of light .

if u really want to know u should read ur 9th grade physics book (light chapter)

the blue sky is certain light frequencies...refracting through the atmosphere and reflecting off the oceans..and moisture in the air....etc..etc...didn't you graduate 3rd grade??
