Okay, I rent a piano from a piano store. I've had it since about Feb. of this year... and I'm not sure if I should tune it sooner or later! Some of the keys sound kind of harsh or rattly, I looked inside the piano and the hammers look worn from the strings, and, well, being no piano tuner, should I have the piano checked out soon? Can a piano tuner do something about the worn-looking hammers? And should I call the store where I rented the piano out to see if they have a policy on who tunes the piano first? I would appreciate any advice thank you!

i would check with the store first to see what there policy is. they might only want their people to tune it. but normally you should have a piano tuned 2x a yr spring/fall because of climate change especially if you have humid summers and really dry winters. and make surethe piano is not in front of any type of heat/air conditioner register. piano tuners can definatley replace hammers etc... they might need to come back if they dont have all parts on them. make sure you get someone reliable and expirienced.

I would call the store you rented it from first. I think pianos are supposed to be tuned yearly, but if it sounds funny than you should definitely tuned it... unless you don't want to lol. And yes, if you tell them about the hammers they will look at them and replace them if they need to

It would be the responsibility of the owner to maintain the instrument, not the renter, just as the reasonable repairs for a house for rent is the responsibility of the owners =)

Yeah it does sound like it's due for some maintenance. You will play better if you love the way it sounds.

i think you should call first,

i think you should tune your piano every 1 or 2 years. either that or every 6?9? months

lol my piano..
its been sitting there for like 9234729384 years...
i still play on it sometimes..
i think it was the last millenium when we got it tuned.
