Now in Canada you have to go to post secondary school (community college) before you can get your realtor's licence. I happen to think that is a good idea as it is the hugest investment most people will make and it would be nice if the person you are trusting with that much of your money knew exactly what to do with it.

As in any profession. Some realtors only want to sell homes as fast as possible for a lower price to get a fast paycheck. In the book Freakonomics the author show how realtors ad their houses different from their clients houses in order to get more money from their own homes.
He proffers that real estate agents serve themselves rather than their clients when they push sellers to take the first bona-fide offer, even if holding out might bring a better price. The agent wants the seller to take the first solid deal because then the agent gets the commission right away; holding out might mean weeks or months of extra work for the agent, while increasing his or her commission only slightly. Freakonomics presents the notion that homeowners and real-estate agents may have conflicting monetary incentives as big news.

By the way, most realtors I know don't work full time as realtors, only on week ends or to help friends.

If you are a realitor, all the more reson people should go with FSBO!!!! You seem to be over-negative. And if you know about problems with a house to "help greedy owners avoid getting their butts sued" you are required by law to disclose information. If you don't like your job and cannot earn decent money while being honest, get out of the field...there are good and bad in every field, I don't believe I have to state which side of that fence you seem to be on. Also in some states, it is even illegal for you to have certain types of personal relationships with those people you refer others to. Besides that your broker probably gets the most money out of your commision than anyone. Don't like it change something!!!!

On behalf of all Realtors, I apologize for this dumb*ss.

We help homeowners keep as much of their hard earned equity as possible, and protect them legally.

We help homebuyers live the American Dream by owning a home of their own for the best possible price.

If you're not happy with what you do, then it may be time for a change.

Yes because lots of realtors are angry people who cannot appreciate what they get and expect to be paid for answering phones and faxing papers. Or at least the one who asked the question.

i personally think they get underpaid because they r the ones doing all the people work and if it wernt for them noone feeds the information to all the other officers (escrow, loan etc)... they r the blood of the real estate companies.

No they are not paid dtoo much. So much work goes into prep and many times the sales fall through, and they are paid nothing and could have worked on the projects for months

Most people assume Realtors do nothing and make big bucks. I guess thats why 70% of realtors make no more than 10,000 a year in real estate.
