This is a few scientific truths in the bible:

The Hydrologic Cycle

Ecclesiastes 1:7 “All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.”

Job 36:27-28 “For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof: Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.”

Proverbs 3:20 “By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.”

Amos 9:6 “It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.”

The Jet Stream

Ecclesiastes 1:6 “The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.”

That is just a few things I found. Can you find anything else?

The 3 Purposes of Rain

Job 37:13 “He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.”

Since there is so much scientific knowlege here, why do people mock it and ignore it, when people then already knew the earth was round and other things:

The Earth hangs upon Nothing

Job 26:7 “He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.”

All Things are Made of Things Which are not Visible to the Naked Eye

Hebrews 11:3 “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

Individual Fingerprints

Job 37:7 “He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.”

Light is Always Moving – It has no Dwelling Place

Job 38:19 “Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,”

We should be cautious of reading modern scientific theories into ancient texts of any sort, though it is certainly a fact that some of the observations of nature found in sources like the Bible (and also Egyptian and Greek texts) are more accurate than the scientific "knowledge" of the 19th and 20th centuries -- particularly with respect to the seas and winds, with which the ancients were intimately familiar. There is no need for science and religion to be pitted in an artificial "one-or-the-other" contest, whether on evolution or any other topic.

That being said, one more is that the Bible states that snakes can hear (citation not at hand presently, I'm afraid). Until the late 20th century, scientists believed that snakes are deaf. However, relatively recent studies indicate that snakes do in fact hear low frequency sounds. (Before anyone tries to make this into a KO of science, it should be understood that the discovery actually fit better with the predictions of evolutionary theory than deaf snakes would have, so it's really a "win" for both sides!)

Apart from the science, of course, the Bible also contains a wealth of historical information that is among the most accurate available to us from that time.

There are more intriguing questions that God asks in the book of Job. I don't look at the Bible as a scientific book. It's full of wisdom, not scientific facts. God has no need to brag about how smart he is, he created everything, so proof is everywhere. I was looking at a diagram of a part of the ear called the cochlea. That is one astounding invention! I've also heard that many scientists are amazed at the creation story because the sequence of events show a knowledge of things like the laws of gravity, and quantum physics. Quantum physics in a way agrees with the Bible, because the basic essense of everything is information, and the first thing God said was "Let there be Light", which may mean that the first element that existed was photons.

There certainly is. I had the priviledge while at Valparaiso University of studying under the late Theology Prof. Rast. His summer digs in the Holy Land were instrumental in locating Sodom and Gomorrah. His activities revealed a catastrophic event at the sites which was in chronological alighnment with the Bible.

So yes, there is truth in the Bible to be sure.

Man understood how things worked and God was the ultiamte scientist.

Jesus restored life with a touch.

Ever here of CPR?

There is a passage in the bible about a man made of metal who ate a roll of parchment and spake.

Now, what does that sound like!

Two hundred years ago it would be called symbolic.

With today's computers and tape decks it's literal.

Doesn't the start of Genesis read like the Big Bang theory!

I'm glad the Bible doesn't claim to be a science book, otherwise we'd have to rewrite it every few years like the current science books. No, God had given us the overall picture, and it's up to us to shape our viewpoint of science around His truth. The evidence fits so much cleaner when you look at the world like this!

Technically, the hydrologic cycle does not involve distillation. Clouds do not produce dew. Not all rivers run into "the sea". And that hardly describes the jet stream, which is usually west-east, not south-north.

What are you trying to prove here? Does anybody anywhere refute the validity of the hydrologic cycle?

You're trying to make a conflict where none exists.
