It can work out but then again it can not. I got to know this guy on the internet and we talked heaps and real easily but then he started pressuring me to meet him. I told him my parents wouldn't let me (I was still in school then) and he took that ok but wanted to write real letters instead (note, he'd then have my address). Well I didn't like that either but he gave me his address anyway.
But then he stopped chatting to me (didnt come online) and didn't return emails and stuff even when I said I really needed his help because I was going through a real rough patch. Then my rough patch got so bad that I actually wrote to him and gave him my address...
After that, he suddenly appeared online again. It took me a while to piece it all together but when I did, I stopped contact with him and so he hacked into my email account and changed the passwords and everything. Luckily, nothing more ever came of it after that (I managed to get the account back through my own means but I ended up dropping it anyway) but you can't always be so lucky.
I think it's ok meeting someone in person if you've met them online through one of those secure websites for meeting people but if you've just randomly met them through messenger then you have to be heaps more careful.
You have to be careful about what you tell them online as well becuase you might htink you're not telling them anything that could lead to you but over time you can drop enough little details which will give them enough to piece together to find you.

Just be careful. Meet in public places. Maybe even make it a group thing. It's dangerous, but what isn't?
