One might consider this in the context of a civilian criminal court - and perhaps also in the context of the recent war in the Middle East, in which Israel argues it bombed Lebanon in self-defence after Hzbollah crossed the border and abducted two of its soldiers. Of course, previously Israel abducted most of the Palestinian Hamas MP's (again apparently in self-defence) after Hamas activists abducted an Israeli soldier (possibly in self-defence?). The law, being human, may be an ***, but it seems to me the only route to civilisation - if we can survive long enough to get there. What do you reckon?

There is no country that Israel has threatened to wipe of the map. One the other hand, several Islamic countries have said that Israel should be wiped of the map and the Jews pushed into the sea. Iran and Hezbollah are the greatest perpetrators. So I can only hope that Israel will retaliate more severely next time and not worry so much about the civilians. After all the women keep giving birth to future terrorists and the children are brought up to become terrorists. I think they need to bring back Bibi Netanyahu.

Hey Mack,

Self defense is as it states -- nothing more.

Murder (I don't know why they have different degree's) is something that you plan against known persons.

War and "Police Actions" are something that countries partake in to secure their viability and safety on "behalf of their citizens". While we may not see the nuances of any of the three, it is the court of public opinion that is the ultimate judge. This is why, when Iraq invaded Kuwait, many nations stood side by side in defiance of Iraq. When the U.S. invaded Iraq, we couldn't get enough countries to the table to have a decent game of bridge.

Public opinion is the glue that keeps these pieces we call Earth from breaking apart.

Just my thoughts,

I reckon you don't know enough about the situation to say it's pre-meditated murder or self-defense. People can claim anything but that doesn't make it true. Comparing a court case to the Middle East will never work.

By definition no.

But in the example you gave, you're talking about two different situations.

Even if Israel was the aggressor with Hamas (which I'm pretty sure is not the case if you check), that has nothing to do with them defending themselves against Hezbollah, when Hezbollah attacked first.

NO. It's arrogance, greed (the profit from war) and fundamentalism that uses the cover of "self defence" as an excuse. There are so many way to defend a country without bombing the other civilization to rotten stage.

Yes, in this case, Israel was just in all of its known reactions to Hezbollah. I would have done worse, but I guess they just have more mercy than I do. You also have to remember that Hezbollah is still a terrorist organization bent on Israel - thats reason enough to hunt them down in my book.

Nations cannot commit murder. So the discussion is moot.
