My friend and her boyfriend share an apartment lease and she left him recently because he was abusive towards her. How does she get out of that lease without costing her big bucks.

Every state has different laws. I would look up the Landlord Tenant Act for your state and see what it says.

You can break the lease, but the apartment can do several things. They can charge you rent until they re-rent the apartment, they can put the amount owed on your credit report, they can give you a negative report on rental history, etc. It's best to complete your contract if at all possible. Under certain circumstances, you can explain the situation with the apartment complex and they may let you out of your lease.

well if she has police reports of him being abusive toward her then she can go to the apartment manager and tell them that she wants to get out of the lease because she fears for her life and also she can get a lawyer to help her with this because if they don't let her out the lease and somethings happen to her then they will have to take some of the blame

The only thing she can do is pay the fee, which is going to cost a lot, I don't think she has another way out.

That's what they get for co-habitating outside of marriage. It was God's will.
