I've always heard that reader's digest is what people who don't like to read read. It's more for flipping through, really. It's got funny little quotes and stories and some sometimes really helpful ideas and resources about health and finances, especially. It's sort of geared toward the geriatric set and patients in medical waiting rooms.

Saving money. 4 novels for the price of one, I guess. Plus it can be an intro to good books you might not otherwise have given a second look at.

Oh, you probably meant the mag. I ASSumed you meant the books because of the category.

Benefits of the magazine....I like it because there are those funny columns and snippets at the end of articles. The Drama in Real Life is aways a good read. But I don't like their slant....I didn't notice it at first, but they have a definite bias, so I often skip the articles and go for the funnies.

If you mean the magazine, it let's you sample articles that were previously published in other magazines. So, in one compact magazine, you get a wide variety of articles without having to subscribe to all the originals.
If you mean the condensed books, I guess people want to save time by reading a shortened novel or nonfiction. Since I love to read, they don't appeal to me.
