It depends on where you are going. One idea is an oversize white shirt with a black tank top under it. It sounds old school but leggings are back so lets bring it all back. Loosely tie the white shirt in front so that it hang down a bit. I am not sure how old you are but I am assuming old enough to pull this look off. Leave the white shirt unbuttoned and add some silver jewerly. The bigger the better. Large hoop earrings and a long silver necklace that hangs at least half way down your tank top. If your large chested you may want to go with a shorter necklace. Bracelets and rings from a store like Claire's or The Icing. Cheap jewelry is in and it holds up well from these stores. If you go with big earrings and necklace then make the bracelet and rings a little smaller. Try on some black leg warmers if you will be in the air conditioning. They are really in this year. Top all this off with a wide silver belt. Don't tighten it but let it hang with the white shirt. I know you just asked about a shirt but this will be a great look. Have fun

I had the same dillema the other day!

I think a loose kind of top, because the leggings are tight & so is the mini... So a loose singlet top (fitted around the top then looser down the waist), & if it's cold you could wear a cardigan with it.... Any colour goes with black & denim, you could wear black again or green, but break it up with a lighter colour cumberband around your waist, or a belt. Then a cardigan & a long necklace...

Just because it's a trend doesn't mean you have to wear it. But since it is a trend, this is EXACTLY what I see whenever someone decides to sport the style:
ballet-type flats, leggings, jean skirt, a "rocker" type t-shirt with an "edgy" looking belt. It reminds me of the leggins and oversized sweatshirts I used to wear as a kid. It was tacky then and is tacky still

I wore this kind of outfit before..and what I did was to wear it with a white sleeveless that has a thin fabric..my outfit did not stop from there, I also wore it with black suspenders to match the color of my knee-lenght leggings. As for my shoes I wore black ballerina flat shoes..but I suggest, especially if you have long legs, wear this outfit with a high-cut chuck taylor! I assure you its going to be fabulous! Its rugged and simple..but very comfortable! Try it!

I'd suggest some sort of colorful shirt. It would be a great contrast.

You can wear just about any color, if you wanna be on the safe side though, wear black.
