A boil is a skin infection that starts in a hair follicle or oil gland. At first, the skin turns red in the area of the infection, and a tender lump develops. After 4-7 days, the lump starts turning white as pus collects under the skin. And yes, you can get them anywhere and it has nothing to do with being sexually active. Place hot compresses on the boil to bring it to a head and allow the boil to erupt and that will relieve the pain. You can also take Tylenol or Motrin to help with the pain. The compresses will help it to go away. As a nurse, this is what we would tell patients to do.

You CAN get a boil (small staph abscess) on the penis but it is most likely herpes rather than a true boil.

Not that I'd know since I have no penis...I just thought this was an interesting question and was checking to see if you had actually gotten any answers. Sorry to hear about the chick with the over-seas hubby who dealt with it...pretty painful I'd imagine. Well...that was educational. Thanx!
