Why do the laws protect the molester more than they do the child? Its not right for them to only get 5 years probation when the child has a life sentence.... Its just not fair

Well my son was molested by some one that was supposed to be a family friend that we have known for years. He only got 5 years probation and 30 days served in jail.. How is that fair? My child is the one who has to suffer for the rest of his life and remember what happened to him so that is his life sentence. Now he has to go throught therapy and everything. How is this fair? He will never forget it. And for those who are jerks about it and try to make a joke out of it must be one to. its not funny at all

Could you give an example of this? I have never heard of them throwing the abused child in jail...
EDIT: okay im sorry i misunderstood
I totally agree with you. Our laws make no sense. That's ridiculous that he only got a month in jail. I am so sorry that your son has to suffer with those awful memories for the rest of his life. It is not funny AT ALL. All you can do is support him.
and to omgwtfbbq below
What would you have them do? Let the molesters on the street so they can do it again? Yes, putting them in jail is the best thing we can do with them. For life. They abused a child. A child cannot defend themselves, they do not know how to stop an adult from taking advantage of them. IT IS NOT FAIR.

I agree with you, it is a life sentence. I was molested as a child from I was about 8/9 till I was 13 and I am now 27 and it was only up to about a couple of years ago I stopped looking at myself in the mirror and remembering it. Even after therapy. I sometimes dream about it but not as ften as I did before. The way it affects me now is that I have 2 beautiful daughters and a baby boy and I am paranoid about them being around men/strange people.
My husband has never known what its like to have changed a diaper. I put up with a lot of issues with my husband as well for fear of my kids having a step father. My bastard stepfather is still alive and with living my mother. Never served any time whatsoever but a pat on the wrist. I did not have my mother's support -please, please make sure you are ALWAYS there for your son.

Because we have people that make the laws that are too naive to realize that not all people can be rehabilitated. They have forgotten that there needs to be severe punishment to prevent further crimes. If they had a loved one that was molested, perhaps they would see first hand the dangers these people pose and choose more appropriate punishment. It is time that we pass laws that protect the victim more than the criminal. Criminals choose their acts, but the victims don't have a choice

believe me i am going into the corrections system and i have never heard of the molester getting off that easily. There are stories in the prison i work at from the other staff.
One said that one day they did a count and found one of the inmates beat to a bloody pulp. It was from another inmate who found out that he was a baby raper.

Why is that? Why do they focus on giving people who sell drugs 5-10 years and people who molest children less than 5 years, I dont know? We need to change things

ASK YOUR SON IF HE THINKS IT IS A LIFE SENTENCE. LET HIM BE THE ONE TO JUDGE IF IT WILL KEEP HIM FROM LIVING A FULL AND HAPPY LIFE. YES! THIS IS HARD ON YOU AS A FATHER, BUT IT'S YOUR SON WHO HAS TO LIVE WITH IT. THINK ABOUT YOUR SON MORE THAN ABOUT THE MOLESTER. TALK TO HIM AND BE THERE FOR HIM NOW AND ALL WAYS. MOLESTER'S ARE VERY SICK AND NEED HELP. YOUR SON WILL LOVE YOUR LOVE FOR HIM

The child molester had a high powered attorney who was able to negotiate a favorable plea agreement for his client.

I have heard that child molesters in the loosest sense are the reason for most inmates being inmates, so do they recieve sentences that end? Not ever, not ever.

You're absolutely right, child molesters are the scum of the earth and in my opinion before they go to jail should be castrated and never see daylight again.
By life sentence she means, the child has to live with it all of his/her life and might be permanently damaged or traumatized.

Killing the guy, locking him up for life, giving him 10+ yrs of jail time isn't gonna help the child in any way shape or form. You realize that right? Sure, they're bad people but what do you hope to acheive by life imprisonment?
