The arts generally describe human emotion or human interaction to cosmic events. I wonder if and how they relate to each other.

Sorry that I'm not a philosopher, but I happen to like the idea that art, music, and poetry are somehow related. It beats trying to find ways to make money on the web or how do I add my picture to yahoo avatar.

let's slice it up bit by bit.

music is an art... no doubt about that. the lyrics of a music can be considered as poetry - an art too... philosophy is the message embedded by the composer or lyricist - his own philosophy or way of reasoning... now which comes first?

before creating a poem, a philosophy must first be implied - as a guiding tool. you invoke something of a feeling, a message perhaps, before creating a poem. that would be your basis...

1. Philosophy
2. Poetry

once you created your poem, it then becomes an art. poetry is a description of an art. a creation by an artist to invoke his philosophy.

1. Philosophy
2. Poetry
3. Art

then, if you want to incorporate a rhythm or a tempo, music is created.

1. Philosophy
2. Poetry
3. Art
4. Music

there's your relation. debatable as it may seem, but everyone is welcome to react on my opinion... ciao.

I read the answer that you've got so far and I couldn't believe how ignorant some of us are. First of all, with the exception of philosophy (and only to a certain extent), the rest of the things in your enumeration are forms of ART. Are they related? Of course they are. A good poem is like a beautiful painting that you watch while listening to music. Poems have rhythm and describe feelings or places. Here you go: 3 in one. Or, better, listen to Beethoven while keeping your eyes closed. If you cannot visualize anything, then you have to ask yourself if you really know how to listen to music.
The guy who said the poetry was "invented" after the hand writing was invented is so wrong. Tons of poems and songs were transmitted orally, from generation to generation, long before people learned how to write. We will probably never know for sure which one came first (my opinion is that they have never been separated, they were together from the beginning... in a philosophical way) and it really doesn't matter. Trying to find out which one was invented/discovered first is like trying to see who would be the winner in a fight between Spiderman and Batman.

P.S. I forgot about philosophy: this one appeared when people started to ask which one came first: music, poetry or Art..?

My guess would be in this order:

Music, art (as in paintings, drawings, sculptures), poetry and philosophy.

Music as related to spoken language which should have been first used by hunters and gatherers.

Art came as close second in the age when farming and herding was popular and homes were established to safe keep potteries and personal belongings.

Poetry would have to come after hand writing.

Complex thoughts and concepts as in philosophy would have to come after hand writing has been well established.

That interaction to cosmic events is WAY off. Otherwise, you are just rambling. Where did you come up with this one? Rhetorical.

music came first - that's what life is - the vibration and music of the universe.
