You don't need any software to connect to a hub. There's nothing to download. Just connect a CAT5 cable between your NIC and the hub and you're ready to go.

No configuration needs changing unless your NIC is set for full duplex operation. By default it should be set for auto speed and auto duplex. If it's set for full duplex it won't work on a HUB. Change it to auto duplex and it will work fine.

A hub is just a central pivot point for computers to network through.

Windows will build its own network (start, settings, network connections, network setup wizard) and that's all the software you need.

The hub allows you to wire cable from each computer's ethernet port to the hub, so that the computers can talk to each other.

You do not need any software to connect to a hub, all you need is a straight through patch cable to connect between your pc(s) and your hub, if you are connecting two hubs together (not adviseable) you must use a cross-over cable to connect them.

You don't really need software to connect to a hub. What you need is to configure you network adapter card. ie you will normally need to give your PC an IP address.

You can do it by going to control panels, network connections, select your network adapter (ethernet) card, select TCP/IP, and than Properties.

No don't think you need to install any extra software, if you are using Win98SE and above.
