I'm planning to drop out of school, and get a GED right away.

How good is a GED ? What good can it do for me ?

Your diploma looks better on resume and college application (if you decide to further your education).

It also states you stuck it out and finished your education. Not try to do "short cuts" and all. Jobs really look at things like that. Especially high paying jobs.

Reason why I know this is because my mom drop out and got her GED. She has one heck of a time getting a decent job. She finally got one 11 years ago and it took her from age 16 to 37 to get a good job with amazing benefits. (Works for Department of Treasure). She went back to school (college) to gain her A.S/B.S and now working on her Masters.

Depends where you want to go in life will depend on how good a GED is v.s a Diploma.

Some jobs feel either way you passed high school while others are very strict upon your educational background.

From interviews of myself with high jobs, non states they will hire a GED before a Diploma with college education of at least an A.S degree of least 2 years experience.

It gets tough.

Just depends what you are in for and what all you want out of it.

I recommend to get diploma. It is all your choice.

You are just as qualified with a ged as with a high school diploma. What a GED can do for you is get you into college, even if you have no desire to go to college now you might later. People change as they get older. My advice is to stay in high school, the experience can not be duplicated. If you do drop out obtain your GED as soon as you can and keep an open mind. You don't know what the future holds

I suggest you do not drop out of school. GED's aren't meant for that. you can make it threw high school, its tough but its better than going into a real world and getting to butt kicked because you didn't finish high school. Now a day only job you can get with a GED or HS degree is Mc D's. Company's now are looking for people who have a AS or BA degree. Its silly, but that what the standards are now a days. Its not like when our parents were kids. Back to your questions, They are just a good as a HS degree, older adult who didn't finish HS are now going back to get a GED. Which is good! (My family works with "Race for GED") I suggest if there is something major going on at home or in your life were HS isn't going to work go for it. If you just don't want to do the work and finish school because your lazy (people do that) DON'T. They sometimes they don't work out. You don't what to be known as a kid that droped out. Best thing is research where you will take the GED or about the GED it self. But you can only pick what best for you! Good Luck!

A GED is something to get if you positively can't go to school. it pretty much gets you the same things as an high school diploma will but to drop out of high school is something to think long and hard about because it could be something you will regret doing. I did. don't take the easy way out because all that you want in life you will have to work long and hard for so start now don't be a quieter trust me it will lead to falling behind in your plans for the future.

Well...it's better than nothing at all. And, you can get into most community colleges with a GED. Do it, it's a known fact that in order to make a decent living these days you need an education. Good luck!

You little dip, why would you do that? No, a GED has a certain connotation to it that says you could not stick it out in high school. And frankly, you need to study for the GED. Stay in school, finish, and then you won't need to worry about a GED. Geesh!

Most service jobs will accept a GED These jobs are waitressing, cashier, janitorial jobs etc. You can still go on to college, but it is very hard when you have had little preparation with college prep classes that you can get in high school. YOu have to decide what your goals are for career opportunities. Where do you want to be 10 years from now?

Its the same as a high school diploma except you don't get the ceremony and whatnot. I dropped out and took my GED and because of my high score I got a scholarship to a JR college... so its not all bad.

I left high school when I was 16 and got my GED when I was 17. It's just as good as a high school diploma. If you can though, I'd stay in school! :)

Exactly the same as a graduation from your school if you pass. Once you passed go to the school and they will give you a diploma. I got mine by GED.
