it depends on what you consider "bad". if you think that stoned men with long hair are a decline in society, then probably yes, but personally i think it was something that would've come along eventually, with or without the beatles, a cultural revolution was brewing, and the bealtes just became the embodiment of it. but think of the millions of people their music made happy and inspired them to do great things, and don't have long hair and do drugs.

I think it is too simplistic to 'blame' The Beatles. The media are the ones who promoted them and the way that society was. As you said, things were already changing - communication was getting easier and people were wanting and expecting more from life. The media and advertising encouraged this. Folks wanted to enjoy their lives and the Beatles brought a lot of joy to the world.
Remember the messages in their songs were all to do with relationships and love.... not many bands / artists you can say that about these days.
"And in the end... the love you take... is equal to the love... you make."
Try telling that to the US Government and the idiots who voted for Bush.

Well, at least they didn't encourage war and violence. Quite the opposite, in fact. Is long hair on men really that terrible? Didn't Jesus have long hair (a little before The Beatles)? Believe it or not, people did abuse illicit drugs before the 1960's.
Has the 60's generation, in general, turned out really bad? I don't think so.

Boy, if you still have a problem with long hair on men (didn't Jesus and all the prophets have long hair?), you need to get a life! The beatles didn't introduce any of that stuff - they just road the wave. There was plenty of premarital and underage sex and plenty of drug abuse pre-Beatles and pre 60's throughout the U.S. and among all the different segments of the population. It just wasn't talked about or as public.

Music would never have come as far as it did if it wasn't for them. The world needs to go through its phases, and I think the 80's were a bit worse then what the Beatles may or may not have brought on.

No it wasn't the Beatles or their music.
It was the Media-EdSullivan show, teen magazines, radio--that spread(to make money from ads and subscriptions) their images and music so wide and with much repetition that was the cause.
Just the same as MTV allowed Rap and crap to influence vocabulary and behaviour of everyone.
If MTV wasn't in all those homes around the world. do you think it would have spread so fast and so far.Once again it was the media trying to make money that sped the spread.

Just the beatles?
Did you know that Beatles didn't know about drugs until 1964-1965?

I doubt it. I'd say that happened with rap. The Beatles might have just put it in the spot light but I don't think they really proliferated it. I could be wrong though.

No, they were a product of their surroundings, like we all were. I grew up in Britain on Beatles music and I'm not immoral or a drug user. They were great and remain the best band EVER!

The Beatles inspired a ton of human beings. They continuously replaced society from being so common and having a huge voice in politics and the concepts of society. BQ: for sure, Beliebers.
